What I learnt by doing what I'm doing

Hi guys, this post is just to share what I learnt in this type of work, up to know. I'm a maintenance engineer.

First, I learnt how can be difficult to achieve, to conquer your position. Every day you fight to became what you want to be. This is the best part of a job...having a position in a company, like in a society.

Second. I'm learning mechanical systems, electronic systems, etc ... In this field you know a lot of systems, you became a master to manage them.

Third, I learnt how the team is important in your success, in the success of a company. You can't reach nothing without a right TEAM.

Fourth, I learnt to give the right weight at the right people, and less at the wrong people.

The most important thing I learnt is Getting the ball rolling!!

Proximity... a perfect detective.

A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.
We have capacitive, magnetics, optical, inductive and others.
A typical inductive sensor that you can find in an industry is one like in the following picture:

It is a type of non-contact electronic proximity sensor that is used to detect the position of metal objects, you can find in labelling machine for example, valve position control during processing , position detection, etc.

    Team...Total Element to Achieve Milestones

The purpose of a Project is reaching the goal assigned.

The matter of a project manager is coordinate each expert of a particular sector to achieve what you want to reach. My mentor always says me..you have the accountability of all and you can't have excuses for what isn't going in the right way. Of course, the projects are different but they have the same modus operandi.

I want to give you my principal three advices.

Important is to have a unified team because it is a bijective relationship, you need them and they need you.

What I learnt during this years is the difficult matter of manage people. It depends on your ability to make them feel part of a group and importance in the same way. What I learnt is that everyone has different characteristics you have to understand them, trying to adapt for bringing the best from all of them. There will be difficult days, doesn't matter but the PRIMARY thing is the COMMUNICATION.

Only with a right communication, you can understand if your team is aligned or not. For me, meetings, when you feel something strange, is a great thing to discharge some stresses that could be involved in.

Second is giving the RIGHT IMPORTANCE TO EVERYONE. All are important, the humans are the key.

My third advice is CLEARLY DEFINE GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Everyone has to be clearly informed about what is the goal. Remember, more clear is the goal, faster achieve your aim.

In general, I prefer a small group, maximum five persons, easier to manage, studies on project management also say this.

Someone is used to say: "Management is nothing more than motivating other people."

    MAINTENANCE IN THE REAL WORLD

In the new economy in which the game is not only ensuring the new and right product, in a market already full, the play is in reducing costs, and in this game the players are Maintenance and Supply Chain.

Now we talk about the real maintenance.

We have mainly two type of maintenance. The predictive one and the preventive.

The  preventive maintenance is designed to preserve and restore equipment reliability by replacing worn components before they actually fail. The aim of an Maintenance Engineer is organize the activities, choose the right crew, leading it to achieve the aims.

Facilities, mainly, are the systems controlled and organized by Maintenance Team.

Facilities are the support for production, including:

    1. Boiler Rooms.
    2. Pumps and valves (   check, gate, glob...)
    3. Conditioned air.
    4. Pipes, tanks and whatever is included in plant, that could be checked.
The simple system used to control them are the check lists prepared opportunely by technical leader.
The frequency and the standards could be done  accordingly with the expert of each sector or in base on the experience.
Another way is using system like thermography,  vibration analysis and visual checking.

As a maintenance leader you organize each activities, internal and external.

You and your team are always ready to solve troubleshooting about machines and systems. You will face a lot of systems: pipes, mechanical and electrical tools, electrical panels, plc systems, hot boxes, various machines for production ( NOT ONLY FACILITIES ), LOTO ( Lock out Tag out ), sensors, proximities, critical equipment, bearings and fire fighting systems, you will manage them. You will be a buyer, project manager, supervisor, planner and team leader...

In accord to save time and money, reducing "Out of service", maintenance is the matter that can increase the capability of a company to increase saving and product more and more, a good maintenance reduce even the work of technicians, always ready to work.....

    The challenge is accepted!!
